Since the dawn of time oral sex has been used as a way to enjoy an intimate sexual encounter without the risk of impregnation. It is now celebrated as something of an art form, the delights of 69 bring great pleasure to the lucky participants. Even though oral sex can’t cause an unwanted pregnancy, it does still come with risks in the form of sexually transmitted infections, or STIs like chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and syphilis to name just a few! In order to prevent the transmission of these dangerous microorganisms it’s important that both the male and female participants use prophylactic measures like condoms and dental dams to protect themselves and each other.
The male condom is a pretty famous item that probably doesn’t need much explaining, it’s a sheath that fits snugly over the penis to keep the sperm from getting out and STIs from getting in. Men can wear one for either vaginal or oral sex. One might not think of it, but because the condom will be placed in the partner’s mouth during oral sex, the material it’s made from must be taken into account- if they are allergic to latex you will need to use a condom made from an alternative substance. If they happen to be a vegan, then fear not, there are also vegan condoms that you can use without breaking their dietary restrictions! The main thing is to keep the oral sex safe for both participants.
Now let’s turn our attention to the female side of the 69 equation. Although not yet as well known as the condom, the dental dam is equally important as it is the most effective way to protect both the male and female partner during oral sex. The dental dam is a barrier that is placed over the vaginal opening or the anus so the mouth doesn’t actually touch the bare skin. Dental dams are usually made from thin latex or plastic sheets, although alternative materials like vegan are available for those who require them!
If you want to engage in oral sex but there are no dental dams available, you can make one using a male condom. Start by carefully opening the package and unrolling the condom. Now use a pair of scissors to cut the top and bottom off of the condom. Next cut vertically down one side of the condom so it becomes a square. Lay the cut square condom flat over the vaginal opening or the anus and commence the fun!
Just like intercourse, one must use caution and care when performing oral sex. STIs pose a major health threat and must be avoided at all cost! Some, like HIV and herpes, are permanent once contracted, and may prove life threatening. If you are in a situation where prophylactics are not available but you want to engage in sexual activities, even in the heat of the moment you have to ask yourself if it is worth the possibility of contracting a terrible disease that could maim or even kill you? The answer is “NO!”
Oral sex is a wonderful way to pleasure yourself and your partner, but it must always be done with health and safety assured!
