Much research has been spent trying to nail down the most effective way to reduce body fat, especially the belly fat that is responsible for a number of diseases and conditions. Excess belly fat surrounds vital internal organs putting your body at greater risk from heart disease, diabetes, and liver dysfunction.

But how to beat the bulge?

One proven method is the OMAD or One Meal a Day Intermittent fasting approach. Many people lose weight quickly this way but the advantage is no foods are off limits. So, a triple burger and double French fries with a large soda is acceptable if that is the only meal of the day. Most people opt for dinner as that one meal of the deal, but a more beneficial approach would be to have that large meal for breakfast or lunch leaving the rest of the day to burn off calories while going about your normal working day. This diet utilizes a certain type of intermittent fasting called 23:1 – meaning that 23 hours of the day is spent fasting while the other hour is spent eating. There’s no need to count calories, and no food is off-limits. This disadvantage is that Madam Hunger will undoubtedly rear her head.

One alternative to the OMAD could be to adopt a hybrid version of the program utilising a whey protein shake as the evening meal. By substituting a high-calorie evening meal for a shake rich in protein and vitamins and low in calories those hunger pangs are satisfied resulting in a manageable weight loss system.

The Role of Whey Protein in Weight Management

Consuming whey protein offers several benefits. High protein foods are highly satiating keeping your body feeling full and satisfied for long time periods reducing the likelihood of over-eating or snacking between meals. Protein helps build and preserve muscle rather than create the dangerous belly fat that high sugar insulin-producing foods and drinks can.

Whey protein shakes with a high protein content, drank in the evening, can leave you feeling full while sleeping cutting down on the impulse to indulge in that dangerous midnight snack.

Another benefit of the shake is that they are quick and convenient to make. For those of us with a busy lifestyle and a hectic work schedule, it makes perfect sense to take our evening meal this way.

In summary, a simple diet, way under 1000 calories a day can be achieved using one large meal in the late morning (in tune with the One Meal A Day approach) and a protein whey drink in the evening. This simple and effective diet plan. Regardless of calorie goals, it is important to remember, that consuming nutrient-dense foods for the OMAD component is essential. Consider fresh boiled vegetables, steamed or grilled chicken or fish and perhaps some added vitamins to replace any vitamins or minerals lost through this or any other reduction diet plan.
